Continuity
Continuity transforms care from a service into a relationship. When a woman is held by the same midwife throughout pregnancy, birth, and the early weeks of parenting, trust has time to grow and care becomes deeply personal. Continuity allows stories to be known, choices to be honoured, and care to unfold with consistency and compassion. It creates space for confidence, safety, and partnership, reminding us that birth is not a series of moments, but a journey best supported through enduring relationship
Connection
Connection sits at the heart of midwifery continuity of care. Through an ongoing, trusting relationship, midwives are able to truly know the woman, her family, and her story. This connection supports informed decision-making, emotional safety, and culturally responsive care, while fostering confidence and continuity across pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period. When relationships are prioritised, care becomes not only clinically safe, but deeply respectful, personalised, and empowering.
Community
Community is the living soil from which continuity of midwifery care grows. It is within community that relationships are formed, stories are shared, and care is shaped by culture, family, and place. When midwives practise in connection with the communities they serve, trust deepens, equity is strengthened, and wellbeing becomes a shared responsibility across pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period. Rooted in community, midwifery care remains responsive, culturally safe, and sustained well beyond any single clinical moment
